The most loved dish in the winter season is none other than fish. Let’s all be honest cooking fish at home can be a tricky task. You can overcook it, and it can instantly become dry and tasteless. Know that fish is a delicate dish, so you have to hand it carefully. The good news is that you can make delicious fish in your home if you follow the tricks to cook it. The first thing that matters before cooking is what to buy and what not to buy. You can cook freshly caught fish, or you can also get the fish from Fish Fridges but make sure you smell the fish to know that it is not expired. Buy from the market that has a high crowd and also make sure while buying frozen fish, there is no freezer burn. Opt for fish that smells fresh, and it should be moist. Below we have described the three easy tips to prepare the fish properly for cooking at home.

1. Selecting the fish:

The first thing is to select which type of fish you want to cook. Different fish have different qualities, and they cook differently. Fresh fish is always best, but it does not mean that you have to avoid frozen fish. Frozen fish is cheap, and sometimes companies pack the fish on the day it is caught. If you are buying frozen fish, then make sure to thaw it on the day that you are planning to cook and not before it.

2. Remove skin:

Now that you have bought the fish or you are planning to use the frozen fish, the next thing that you need to do is clean it. Run it under the water and make sure you are cleaning it with delicate hands. As you know that you can ruin a fish quickly, so make sure you are going easy on it. After cleaning, it is advisable to remove the bones from the fish. To remove the bones and skin, layer the fish on a cutting board. Starting from the narrow end of the fish, now insert the knife into the fish and press down until you hit the skin. Pull the skin towards you carefully. Make sure the blade stays directly against the skin of the fish.

3. Seasoning the fish:

After removing the bones and skin, it is time to season the fish. The best way to season fish is by preserving the natural texture and flavor of the fish. So it is advisable if you do not exaggerate the seasoning and keep it as minimum as you can. Usually, people opt for light seasonings like lemon, herbs, and delicate spice. Just remember the concept that light seasoning goes with a thin fish and heavy seasoning goes with bold fish. Whatever the seasoning is, do not forget salt and pepper. Some popular combinations are:

  • Lemon zest, rosemary, and garlic
  • Breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, and dried Italian herbs
  • Brown sugar, soy sauce, and liquid smoke
