A complete homemade pizza sauce recipe with fresh tomatoes
Homemade pizza sauce is a mixture of blended flavors of oregano, peppercorns, onions and fresh ripe tomatoes. Tomatoes are an important ingredient of this recipe and when they are in season, you can make pizza sauce in large quantity and freeze it for the whole year. Ingredients
Ingredients needed to make pizza sauce are fresh tomatoes (you can also use frozen), olive oil, chopped onions, minced garlic, dried basil leaves, fresh basil leaves, dried oregano and freshly chopped oregano leaves. You will also need salt, freshly grounded pepper, tomato paste, and sugar.
Procedure
Step 1
We are going to start with a little bit of fresh oregano. Oregano is the signature of pizza sauce. So, you need some fresh oregano leaves. Pull the leaves off the stem and once they are picked, chop them up.
Step 2
Put a pot filled with water on the stove and let the water boil. On the other hand, make a little x at the bottom of all tomatoes with a knife and put the tomatoes in when you can see bubbles in the water. And keep the flame low then cover the pot and cook on a high flame for 2 minutes. Then lower the flame and you can see the skin is peeling off. Put the flame off and remove them.
On the other side take a bowl of ice water and place boiled tomatoes in it and let them cool. You can use a little strainer to transfer tomatoes from the pot to the ice water bowl. Peel them once they are cool. You will see that as soon as you put the tomatoes in the ice water, they will start to lose the skin automatically. After peeling the tomatoes place them in another bowl and put the bowl aside. Chop the tomatoes and you can also remove seeds if you want to.
Step 3
In a saucepan, add some olive oil and put it on a medium to low heat. Then add chopped onions and minced garlic in it and cook it for about 60 seconds with continuous stirring. You don't need to brown the garlic and after a minute of cooking add freshly chopped oregano and basil leaves in the pan and turn the flame down. Stir in that oregano and cook it for a couple of minutes then add freshly grounded peeper to make the pizza sauce a little spicy. Then put dried oregano because dry and fresh herbs have different flavors so, we will use both.
Step 4
Add tomatoes in the saucepan and stir it on a low to medium flame. Then add some seasoning, salt, a little bit of sugar and black pepper and stir. Cook it until thickened. Then pour the sauce in the blender and add tomato paste and blend it until it gets smooth. And your pizza sauce is ready.
